Dib's Wood Chips
Welcome to the Dib's Wood Chips website. I make one of a kind, handmade wood turnings.
No two pieces are exactly the same and everything is made with love of wood. I try to let nature show me what to do with each piece of wood. I do not add any coloring to my all wood pieces, any color or grain design is natural and made by nature. Some color may be added to pieces using resin casting however.
If you have a piece of wood that you would like to make into a keepsake, contact me and we will discuss what we may be able to do. Please see Previous items page (link above)

My latest completed projects, be sure to view 2 pages of work. Click on a picture below to see a larger version. If a piece shows an item number, it is still available.
Item 1~ Hollow form measuring 6" tall and 8" diameter with live edge opening turned from Pecan. The markings are from wood worms and the fill is stablized.
Item 2~ A bowl turned from Mesquite wood. It is 9" diameter and 2.5" tall. Nice grain and includes both heartwood and sapwood.
Item 3~ A spinning top turned from Huisache wood. It is 4" diameter and 3" tall.
Item 4~ Flowers and vase. The flowers are made from Texas Red Cedar. The heartwood gives the red color in the center of the flowers and the sapwood is white/tan. The vase is made from spalted Hackberry
Item 5~ A Jar/box turned from spalted Pecan with Huisache finial. It stands 6" tall and is hollow all the way to the base
Item 6~ A keepsake box made from Ash wood with Texas Red Cedar finial. It is 7" diameter and stands on 4 legs.

Item 9~ A jar/box turned from Western Cedar. The lid is also hollowed. With lid in place the jar stands 7.5" tall and is 5.5" diameter.
Item 10~ A hollow form with lid. It is 6" diameter and is turned from the crotch piece of some Texas Red Cedar. Really beautiful grain in this piece.
Item 11~ A small box turned from heavily spalted Pecan. It is around 1.5" diameter and 3" tall. Very nice spalting in this piece.

Item 14~ A 4" diameter change/key dish turned from spalted Pecan.
Item 15~ A 13" tall vase turned from the crotch of a Huisache tree.
Item 16~ A wine glass set with stems turned from spalted Pecan. This would need to be a special occasion set since the glasses will need to be hand washed, keeping the wood stem dry.
Item 17~ A Mesquite wood bowl that measures 10' diameter by 3" tall. It includes both heartwood and sapwood for features and has nice grain figure.
Item 18~ A ring box made from Huisache wood. The top is a spinning top also from Huisache with a Bois D Arc finial. It measures approximately 4" outside diameter.
Item 19~ This is called the Mountains of Mars. It is a 4" round sphere with an old Cedar fence post cast inside the resin forming the mountains. The pedestal it sits on is from spalted Pecan. Unfortunately, taking photos of the sphere are difficult due to the highly polished surface reflecting light causing glare.
Item 20~ I call this sphere the Tiger Eye. The pupil is a natural knot in the wood that I incorporated in the piece. It is turned from Western Cedar and shows some nice chatoyancy when held in bright light. It measures around 4.75" in diameter.
Item 21~ I did a little metal work and wood work in this one. I cut out and hammered the rose petals and leaves to shape. I then welded the pieces into the shape of a rose. For the vase, I turned a VERY old cedar fence post.
Item 22~ A drink tumbler from a Huisache root ball. Nice grain features and some natural edge inclusions too. Stainless steel liner with plastic no spill lid, best for hot drinks.
Item 23~ A 9" diameter by 4" tall rustic natural edge bowl turned from Mesquite crotch so it has some curly grain inclusion.
Item 24~ A three corner bowl turned from Mesquite. The bowl measures 3.5" at the tallest points and 8" in "diameter" (measured from a point to the opposite side, obviously it isn't round).
Item 25~ Here is a Cigar style pen turned from Mesquite wood with aluminum inlay to make the Celtic knot.
Item 26~ This is a 10.5" tall vase that is 8" diameter at the top. It is hollowed all the way to the base. Turned from Ash wood with some spalting.
Item 27~ A four corner suspended bowl turned from Ash wood. Two sides are live edge with the bark remaining. The bowl measures 3" deep and 9" diameter inside and the piece stands 4" tall overall. The piece has some nice features in the wood.
Item 28~ A four corner bowl turned from Ash wood. Two edges of the top are live edge bark remaining. There is some spalting and nice features in the wood. It measures 3.5" tall overall with the bowl measuring 3" tall and 9" in diameter inside.
Item 29~ A pedestal box (candy dish) turned from Mesquite wood with a Red heartwood finial. Outside it measures 11" tall to the tip of the finial and 7.5" diameter at the widest. Both the base and lid are hollowed and the inside of the box measures approximately 4.5" at the tallest and 6" diameter. It is finished with 100% Shellac inside which is a food safe finish. The outside is also Shellac but I did use a wood wax to give it some luster.
Item 30~ An emerging Chalice turned from Texas Red Cedar. The base has a bark remaining edge and is off center from the base of the Chalice. The piece stands 12" tall and the base is 7" at the widest. The Chalice is just under 3.5" wide at the lip. This could be used as a pen pot for your desk or just as a display piece.
Item 31~ A rustic, live edge (bark remaining) vase of White Oak. It measures 11" tall and 6" diameter. I turned the inside to accept a 3" diameter by 9" tall glass insert that could hold water for live flowers or remove the glass for dried flowers or just to display the vase. The wood grain follows the curve of the live edge nicely.
Item 32~ A hollow form vessel turned from Texas Mesquite. It measures 3.5" tall by 6.5" diameter. Even though it makes the turning more difficult, I selected a curved piece of wood purposely because it will often contain some nice curly ribbon feature in the grain. I wasn't disappointed, the curly grain shows some very nice chatoyancy and the wood grain has many interesting features.
Item 33~ Starlight tea candle holder made from Texas Red Cedar. It is 2" tall and 6" across from point to point. I made it from some leftover pieces from another project rather than using them for kindling for my woodstove.
Item 35~ This is the Sad Face Vase. It is turned from Cedar Elm and stands 10" tall by 5" diameter. I didn't make the design of the face, it was done by nature with the left eye being a knot and the right eye and pouty mouth having been carved by a woodworm (no longer a resident in the wood BTW). I simply highlighted the features with flame.
